Independence Day 2025: India has so far depended on other countries for the semiconductor. Every year billions of rupees are spent on import of semiconductor, but now the situation is changing. On Friday, August 15, on the occasion of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address to the ramparts of the Red Fort that the country’s first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip will come in the market by the end of the year.

During this time, PM Modi talked about the government’s efforts to make India self -sufficient in the field of technology among the American tariffs. He emphasized the need of the country to become self -sufficient in the field of energy and important minerals to support many strategic industries of the country.

These countries ahead in making semiconductor chip

Currently, large -scale semiconductor chips are made in countries like China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and America. China and Taiwan alone produce about 75 percent of the world. Recently, after the Union Cabinet approved four new semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), PM Modi spoke of the first time the semecondor chip made in India in the market by the end of the year. These chip-making ecosystem describe India’s efforts to strengthen.

Why the semiconductor chip is so important?

India is moving rapidly towards making semiconductor chip. Currently, the demand for semiconductor in India is about $ 24 billion, which is expected to reach $ 100 billion by 2025. By 2030, this figure will reach $ 110 billion. After petrol and gold, electronic gadgets are most imported in India. Among them, the part of the semiconductor is about 27 %.

The semiconductor is a type of silicone chip. It is used from mobile, laptop, smartwatch, electric car to LED bullet. In today’s time, these chips are also used in fighter jets, missiles, drones, submarines, helicopters, warships. This electronic component made of silicon helps in storing, processing, operating and signal amplification of any electronic product memory.
