Adani Foundation has set a target of empowering 10 lakh women across the country under its “Swabhimaan” program. This information was given by Foundation Chairperson Preeti Adani during a program on Thursday. Speaking at the “Swabhimaan: The Rise of SHE” event organized in Mumbai, she said that empowering a woman is not just about helping one person, but investing in the future of the coming generations. The program was organized in collaboration with Adani Electricity and Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM).
Preeti Adani said that empowerment of women does not happen only through donations or assistance, but by giving them opportunities, possibilities and opportunities to develop capabilities. He told that the women associated with the Swabhiman program discuss topics like expanding their small businesses, determining the right price of products, repaying loans responsibly and saving.
Target to connect 1 lakh women in the first year
He said that in the next phase of this initiative, a target has been set to connect 1 lakh women in Maharashtra with the program in the first year. It has been resolved to empower 10 lakh women across the country through this initiative in the coming years.
Swabhiman program was started in 2022. Its objective is to make urban poor women self-reliant by providing them skill training, financial knowledge and understanding of entrepreneurship. According to Preeti Adani, so far more than 4,500 women in Mumbai have benefited from this initiative. The foundation has helped these women in skill training, financial literacy, digital literacy and connecting them to the market.
He said that Mahila Economic Vikas Mahamandal has played an important role in organizing women and forming Self Help Groups (SHGs).
Big impact of women’s earnings
Preeti Adani said that research around the world shows that when women earn, they spend about 90 percent of their income on education, health and family welfare. Many prominent personalities also attended the event, including Ritu Tawde and Aditi Tatkare, several women entrepreneurs and members of the Swabhiman programme.
