Anuradha Thakur’s important role in budget preparation
The role of Economic Affairs Secretary Anuradha Thakur is being considered most important in the preparations for Budget 2026-27. Being the head of the department, she is handling the responsibility of proper distribution of resources and deciding the broad economic structure of the country. Under his leadership the budget department is preparing the entire budget document. Due to which he is called the “Chief Architect” of this process.
This is the first budget for Anuradha Thakur, a 1994 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, as she took charge of the post on July 1, 2025. The special thing is that she is also the first woman IAS officer to lead this department.
Other key members of the budget team
Key officials involved in the preparation of Budget 2026-27 include Arvind Srivastava (Revenue Secretary), M. Nagaraju (Financial Services Secretary) and Vumlunmang Wualnam (Expenditure Secretary). All of them are associated with the budget process at the senior level.
Apart from this, Arunish Chawla (Secretary), K. Moses Chalai (Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises) and V. Ananth Nageswaran (Chief Economic Advisor) are also important parts of this team.
