GST reforms: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Sunday that GST is now registering its presence in every aspect of everyday life. Speaking at an event in Chennai, he told how the effect of recently held GST reforms can be seen from waking up to gold. The common citizens of the country are benefiting from morning tea to dinner. Finance Minister Sitharaman said that before the implementation of GST, only about 66 lakh businesses were part of the tax system, while in the last eight years this number has increased to 1.5 crore. He has given credit to the policies by transparent and simplifying the government.

Middle class will get relief

The Finance Minister further said that in the last eight months, the government has worked to make the tax classification simple and clear so that people do not have any confusion. He insisted that after GST reforms, the input cost of many things will be less, which will cost less in production. After all, consumers will get things at a low price. Referring to a major change, Finance Minister Sitharaman said that 99 percent things which used to come under 12 percent GST slab, will now come under 5 % GST slab. This will make many everyday things more cheap, which will give relief to the common people.

Both public and government benefits

Finance Minister Sitharaman said that with the easy of the tax system, distributors as well as manufacturers will get encouragement to join it. The Finance Minister said that the GST Collection 2018 has increased from Rs 7.18 lakh crore to Rs 22.08 lakh crore, which has benefited both the general public and the state governments.

He further said, “Some people must have criticized me and said that I only know to put people into trouble, but we are working for the country. The state minister has been part of it since the time of establishment of GST Council and this decision has been collectively taken.”
