Middle East Conflict Tech Industry Impact: The impact of the war situation in West Asia is now visible on the tech industry as well. Keeping security in mind, the world’s big cloud companies are preparing to remove their data infrastructure from Gulf countries.
Companies like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure are reducing some of their critical data operations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman. Instead, these companies are turning to safe countries like India and Singapore to operate servers and data centres.
Heavy damage caused by attacks
Due to this ongoing dispute between Iran and Israel, tech companies are planning to shift to safer places. On March 2, there were drone attacks on AWS in the United Arab Emirates and a data center in Bahrain.
The damage caused by this attack can be estimated from the fact that within some time local banking apps stopped working. Even UAE’s stock market had to be closed due to technical glitches. Also faced problems in running the airports in Dubai and Kuwait.
Impact on services, advice to shift data
The impact of increasing tension in the Middle East is also visible on cloud services. According to official information from Amazon, many of its services in this area have either been completely stopped or their functionality has been significantly affected.
There have also been reports that a facility center of Microsoft Azure in Tehran has been targeted. In view of this situation, companies have advised their customers to immediately shift their data from the Middle East to safer areas.
Companies are looking for opportunities in India
In the technical world, the distance to the data center directly affects the internet speed. If the servers are far away then the speed of the website and app becomes slow. Especially for sensitive services like banking, companies need a safe and secure location close to the Gulf region.
For this reason, many companies are now looking for new options in India. Space for data centers is being seen in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi.
