IndiGo Airline Slots Cut: The country’s largest airline company Indigo is once again in the headlines. The company has given up more than 700 of its slots at different domestic airports in the country. This decision has been taken after strict action by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). In which DGCA had given instructions to reduce winter flights. This step is believed to be directly related to the major chaos that took place in December last year.

In fact, in the beginning of December, passengers had to face a lot of trouble. Between December 3 and 5, about 2,507 Indigo flights were cancelled. While 1,852 flights were delayed.

During this time, passengers had to wait for hours at the airport. Due to which more than three lakh people were affected. Taking this matter seriously, DGCA has taken action. After which now Indigo has decided to leave many of its slots.

Schedule changed after DGCA’s strictness

After the chaos in December, DGCA had taken tough action on IndiGo and decided to reduce its winter schedule by 10 percent. The effect of this was that the airline had to stop many flights.

Under this instruction, IndiGo has now submitted a list of 717 slots to the Ministry, which it has abandoned. Slot is actually the time fixed for take-off and landing of the aircraft at the airport.

Metro airports are most affected

The biggest impact of IndiGo giving up 717 slots can be seen in the airports of major metros. According to the information received, Indigo has decided to vacate about 364 slots at six major airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Of these, maximum reduction has been seen especially in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Talking about time, these slots have been left for between January and March. Due to which the flights of these cities may be affected.

The government gave a chance to other airlines

To reduce the problems faced by passengers, the Civil Aviation Ministry has taken alternative steps in this regard. The ministry has invited applications from other airlines for these vacant slots.

So that flight operations can continue smoothly as before. However, the government has made it clear that no company will close its existing routes to get new slots. This will ensure that the convenience of passengers is not affected much.
