William Walsh Becomes New CEO of Indigo: The country’s largest airline company IndiGo on Tuesday announced the appointment of former British Airways chief William Walsh as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company’s board has made this appointment, although it is still subject to regulatory approval.
William Walsh currently holds the post of Director General of the International Air Transport Association. His tenure will end on 31 July 2026 and his entry into IndiGo is considered fixed soon after that i.e. by 3 August 2026. IndiGo said in a statement that Walsh’s appointment will be subject to regulatory approval. His tenure at IATA ends on July 31 and he is expected to take charge by August 3.
Big appointment amid international expansion
This appointment comes at a time when IndiGo is continuously strengthening its international expansion strategy. Work on new aircraft orders and global routes is going on at a rapid pace! In such a situation, the arrival of an experienced global aviation leader like Walsh is being considered a big strategic move for the company. Walsh is commonly known as ‘Willie’. He has previously been the CEO of British Airways and International Airlines Group (IAG). IAG is a holding company under which airlines like Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling operate.
