Big news: Eighth Pay Commission gets Union Cabinet’s approval, 10 month wait ends

Eighth Pay Commission Formation: There is big news for more than one crore central salaried employees and pensioners. The Central Government on Tuesday formally approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Former Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai will be the chairperson of the commission, while IIM Bengaluru Professor Pulak Ghosh and Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) Pankaj Jain have been appointed as its members.

18 months time to send recommendations

The commission will submit its recommendations to the government within the next 18 months, after which the increase in salaries and pensions can be implemented from the year 2027. In the press note issued after the cabinet meeting, it has been said that the term of resignation has been approved for the Eighth Pay Commission. The Pay Commission will have a Chairman, one member (part time) and one member Secretary. After its formation, the Pay Commission has been given eighteen months time to send recommendations.

NC-JCM (Staff Side) Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra says that there may be a delay in implementing the 8th Pay Commission, but it will be considered effective from January 1, 2026. That is, if there is a delay in this, then arrears can be added to the staff from January 1, 2026.

Salary increased with arrears in 2027!

Earlier, when the Seventh Pay Commission was implemented, there was a delay and arrears were given to all the employees and salaried people. The term of reference has been submitted to the Central Government in January itself by NC-GCM, the forum representing Central Government employees and pensioners.

It is noteworthy that in view of the rising inflation and other things in the country, a new pay commission is formed every 10 years, in which the salaries, allowances and other facilities of the central employees are revised. According to this, the Eighth Pay Commission will be considered effective from January 1, 206.

The formation of the Eighth Pay Commission was announced in January this year, but it took about 10 months to get approval from the Union Cabinet. There were voices of displeasure among government employees and their organizations regarding this delay.
