India-US Trade Deal: America might be feeling that it has taught India a good lesson by imposing tariffs, but the reality is that India has tightened America’s control. Actually, India has imposed 30 percent tariff on pulses coming from America. Now two American senators have appealed to President Donald Trump to remove this 30 percent tariff.

Senators appealed to Trump

According to the report of news agency PTI, taking care of their local farmers, in a letter written to Trump on January 16, Republican senators Steve Daines of Montana and Kevin Cramer of North Dakota said that the 30 percent duty imposed by India on American pulses should be reduced. Since India is the largest consumer of pulses in the world, accounting for about 27 percent of the global consumption. In such a situation, Indian farmers are being harmed due to the tariff imposed by India on American pulses. Due to this tariff, the export of pulses and peas to India has also declined.

PM Modi is also mentioned in the letter

In their letter to Trump, the senators said that lentils, gram, dried beans and peas are among the most consumed pulses in India, but India has imposed heavy tariffs on US exports of these categories. In such a situation, the high-quality products grown here are facing competitive disadvantage while exporting them to India. Danes and Kramer said that talking to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about tariffs on pulse crops to increase economic cooperation between the two countries would be mutually beneficial for both American producers and Indian consumers.

When will the trade deal between India and America be finalized?

Meanwhile, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal said in New Delhi on Thursday that India and the US are very close to concluding a bilateral trade agreement and the negotiating teams are working on almost all the remaining issues. He said that once both the parties agree on the right time, a formal announcement will be made. He also said that no time limit has been set for this.
